Mark W. Wong: Serial Exited Entrepreneur with an Exit Value of $900 Million
Mark Wong is a serial exit entrepreneur with 35 years of extensive executive and operational experience, in both growth and turn-around environments. Mark has founded and managed numerous agriculture and biotechnology companies which have an aggregate value of $900 million to date.
Currently Mark is the CEO of Agrivida Inc., a privately held biotechnology company focused on the production of sugars from plant biomass. Agrivida Inc., in Q4, 2012, raised $15 million as a part of a Series C financing to advance the development and commercialization of its propriety technologies. The financing round was led by Bright Capital with other investors including Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, DAG Ventures, Prairie Gold, Presidio, Gentry Venture Partners, Northgate Capital, Alexandria Real Estate Equities, and Syngenta Ventures. Mark also serves on the Board of BioFuel Energy Corporation which is a publicly traded corn ethanol company.
From 1999 – 2005 Mark was the CEO and founder of Emergent Genetics, Inc. After growing the business substantially, Mark and his partnering investors successfully sold the business to Monsanto Company. At the time of sale, Emergent Genetics had grown to become the second largest cotton seed company in the world.
Mark is also the founder of Consus Corporation Inc., a private venture investment and management advisory firm that specializes in the agricultural biotechnology and biofuel sectors. In this capacity Mark played a role in founding or growing multiple companies including: Renewable Agricultural Energy, a corn ethanol company; Anawah, a plant biotech company; Agracetus, a plant biotechnology research company; Agrigenetics, a seed and biotechnology company; Industrial Labs, a food and nutriceutical testing company; Niagara Seeds Inc.; Seed Testing of America, a seed health testing company; Sierra Nursery Sales, a nursery products company; amongst others.
Mark has held various managerial positions with FMC Corporation, including General Manager of the Niagara Seed Division. He also served as the Chief Operating Officer of Agrigenetics Corporation and subsequently as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Agracetus Corporation, a subsidiary of W.R. Grace & Company. He is the Chairman of the Board of Industrial Laboratories, Inc., a privately held food testing company. Mark's ancillary directorships include: Arcadia Bioscience Inc; and AgraQuest Inc., both plant science companies.
Mark holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University, and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Finance. Mark is based in Boulder, Colorado.

The Rise of Agri-tech Innovation, Investment, and Globalization
Nicholas Parker has pioneered sustainable entrepreneurship and investment ideas and initiatives on a global scale for over twenty years. Nicholas introduced the “cleantech” concept to the finance and business community in 2002 by launching Cleantech Group, a market-leading research, events and advisory company based in San Francisco, New York and London. Cleantech Group has helped mobilize over $6B in private equity for cleantech startups, convened over 10,000 decision-makers at Forums around the world, tracked and analysed over 16,000 cleantech innovators and served major corporations, governments and institutions in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America.
In addition to continuing as non-executive Chair of Cleantech Group, Nicholas is Chair of Corporate Knights, the media company for clean capitalism, best known for the Global 100 rankings launched annually at the World Economic Forum in Davos. During 2011-12, he was also founding Chairman of WaterTAP (Technology Acceleration Project) a government corporation formed to promote water technology, finance and policy innovation. His main current focus is Global Acceleration Partners, an investment advisor specializing in cross-border deal-making with emerging markets, particularly China. He is also developing the “nextech” concept for scaling major market-based solutions.
Prior to starting Cleantech Group, Nicholas accumulated over 15 years’ experience forming and investing venture funds worldwide through limited partnerships, family offices, corporate funds and endowments. During this time, he initiated the first trans-Atlantic "sustainability" driven private equity fund and participated in the second ever solar IPO. In the 1990s, he built and sold one of the first environmental finance firms. Nicholas has authored or edited more than ten publications related to cleantech, finance and international business, starting with Investing in Emerging Economies in 1993, co-published by The Economist and the International Finance Corporation.
He serves on several private equity and non-profit advisory boards including Bright Capital (Russia), Clinton Global Initiative, Singapore Energy International Advisory Panel, Centre of Excellence for Commercialization of Research, Inspired Evolution Investment (Africa), the Network for Business Sustainability (academic research) and, until recently, the Premier’s Climate Change Advisory Panel. From 2003-08, he was Chairman of E+Co, the award-winning investment company for clean energy in developing countries.
Nicholas earned a BA Hons. in Technology Studies (Carleton University, Ottawa), an MBA in International Business (City University, London), and is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. He has lived and worked in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America while currently residing in Toronto.
